Getting Comfortable With Touch Controls in Arcade Racers

September 9, 2026 · Lukas Vogel

Nothing ruins an arcade racer faster than fighting the controls. The good news is most of them give you options, and spending five minutes in the settings is worth more than any upgrade you'll buy later.

Tilt steering feels natural on open tracks but falls apart on tight corners. If a game keeps throwing hairpins at you, switch to button steering — you lose a little smoothness but gain a lot of precision.

For drift-based racers, the trick is anticipating the turn, not reacting to it. Start your drift just before the corner, not in the middle of it. I spent a whole career mode late on that lesson.

Lower the steering sensitivity if your car feels twitchy. A calmer input makes you faster, because you stop over-correcting. It's counterintuitive but it works every time.
